I tried to draft a celebration post numerous times yesterday. In fact, I had a post all ready to go this a.m. but I woke up and deleted it. Sometimes, things just don’t feel right.
But celebrations are important. So, I made a list of ten things that made me happy this week. The first things to enter my head. List making is soothing. Gratitude is huge.
1. Strong coffee
2. Reading a pile of picture books at 6 a.m. when everyone else is asleep. Then, sitting back and feeling like a whole day of emotions has already been lived.
3. Smoothie inventing
4. Hawk sounds. They are nesting in nearby trees and their cry is beautiful.
5. Family birthdays
6. Evening games of Blokus
7. Laundry on the line
8. Sitting under a tree with my daughter. Reading books. People watching.
9. Soccer camp for my son. Boys and soccer: bright cleats, long shorts, big smiles.
10. Smiling at strangers in busy neighbourhoods. Smiles back.
I hope that all of your weeks were full of small moments to celebrate.
Thank you to Ruth Ayres, for the inspiration and her Celebration Link up that she hosts each week. I treasure this #celebratelu community. Despite our busy days, time is always found to share what we celebrate. It’s like passing a virtual gratitude stone!
LOVE lists! And what a wonderful way to summarize your celebrations this week! This feels like a poem and something that would be a great writing activity with my new class – if the strike ever ends! : ( I love that strong coffee is the first on your list! And a pile of picture books is 2nd! Have a great weekend! I’m working on my 10 for 10 post – but having a hard time narrowing it down!
We will be needing something stronger than coffee if this strike doesn’t end soon! Looking forward to seeing your list tomorrow! A day full of picture book love!
I agree. “List making is soothing.”
You have captured beautiful real life moments with your list.
Lists work for so many things don’t they?
Wonderful list–I love the structure you’ve chosen for your celebrations. Small moments are my favorite to celebrate. Yes to the strong coffee! In fact, two yesses!
I almost put it on the list twice. Today was a second, third and almost fourth cup morning!
What an inspirational collection of moments. Perfect. I want to do this. Thanks for sharing and choosing what feels right.
Thanks Julieanne. It was strange to get up and delete an entire post but then this one just wrote itself in about 10 minutes. Funny how it goes! Appreciate your comment 🙂
I was just looking for a particular photo & re-found one I took of laundry on a line at the place where I camped with a class last year. It’s such a beautiful place, & the picture made me remember. Love your list, Carrie, filled with good things.
Thanks Linda. The good things make the big difference.
Do you really hang out your laundry? You are so lucky! I loved doing that when we lived out in the country! Sheets and towels especially! Those berries look scrumptious too! I missed our blueberry season this year so I have to rely on frozen ones!
Oh yes – I try to hang out laundry from late April to October. I plan my laundry loads around the rain 🙂 It is one of my favourite things and I never tire of it.
So many of those are mine too. Too bad we don’t live near each other. 🙂
I know! Wouldn’t it be nice to grab a coffee and go talk books, parenting, life . . . Maybe one day . . .
I love your list. My husband and I are moving to a new house. I told him that I wanted a clothesline at the new place so I can hang out my laundry. I love the scent of freshly laundered clothes that have been hanging out to dry. Have a wonderful week.
When we renovated our house, it was the first thing I reminded the contractors to “put back up” so everything could feel like home!
I love lists! And yay for small moments to celebrate. They do add up and are wonderful to know they’re ouut there if you look for them!
Exactly! Precisely why I love this community.
