We are days away from learning which nonfiction book will be awarded the actual Sibert Award for 2015 but today is the day where we learn – here, on Kid Lit Fenzy and on Unleashing Readers which title won our Mock Sibert Award!
And . . .
THE WINNER IS . . . .
Now we must wait until Monday to find out if the Sibert committee agrees.
We are also happy to announce our giveaway winner. Congratulations to Cathy Ballou Mealey who has chosen Handle with Care: An Unusual Butterfly Journey written by Loree Griffin Burns with photographs by Ellen Harasimowicz (one of our Mock Sibert titles) as her prize.
It was so much fun discussing and celebrating the fantastic nonfiction titles of 2014 with Alyson and Kellee. Hosting the Mock Sibert allowed us to highlight our favourites. Check out our original Mock Sibert choices here if you missed them:
Thank you to all who participated! We cannot wait to see who wins on Monday!
So happy for Jen and Melissa!
Hope the results of the Mock Sibert align with the committee’s decision – we will wait on pins and needles for the big reveal!
I feel so lucky to have my name pulled for the giveaway – thank you! The books you have highlighted over the course of the year are truly ALL winners.
Congratulations Cathy! And I agree, so many winners 🙂
I wish the Caldecott committee would honor this book! It’s really hard for me to think of a 2014 PB that I find more distinguished than this one, though I do find the text a bit flat at points. The Sibert is perhaps my favorite of the awards, and I can’t wait to see their choices.
I agree with you – I am very excited to see what is chosen! This title was on our #MockCaldecott list
This is an excellent choice. It’s going to be interesting to see the titles chosen by all the committees next week.
There are so many waiting in anticipation!
Just ordered this book!
It is a lovely book to share! Enjoy!
I love this book, my very favorite, but perhaps because my older students have also enjoyed it. I loved A Splash of Red by Sweet and Bryant too, hope they’re on their way to another collaboration. Looking forward to Monday!
They are an amazing team. I am not personally sure which book I would name as book number 1, 2 or 3 if I had to order them. It was hard enough choosing 5 titles!
Hip Hip Horray! This is one of my very favorite books! So excited to see the winner on Monday!
All of these winner announcements will be most exciting!
An excellent choice indeed!!!
Considering it made it on all three of our lists AND had the most votes in this Mock Sibert process, this book clearly has readers’ hearts!
Absolutely fell in love with this title! 🙂 And I could understand why it won – well-deserved!
Definitely a beautiful book.
I LOVE this book and really hope it gets some recognition. Sweet’s artwork is just beyond amazing!
Yes, this was on our Mock Caldecott list.
One of my favorites…and my kids loved it, too! You could sit and look at that artwork and find new things for quite a long time. SO excited for Monday!
So very true. I love how much my students loved the lists of words.
The Right Word: Roget and his Thesaurus is moving up the ranks in my TBR pile!
A very beautiful book that deserves to be treasured!
